In Saskatchewan, there is a continuing demand for power as people invest in the province and make it their home. As part of this process, SaskPower is exploring opportunities for private ownership or investment in new generating facilities.
We've taken the necessary steps towards securing new electrical generation. Following a competitive bidding process, which began in the fall of 2008, we've chosen Northland Power Inc., a leading Independent Power Producer based in Toronto, to provide 261 megawatts of power to the provincial electrical grid in 2013.
The natural gas-fired facility will be located in the North Battleford area, with construction expected to begin in July 2010. A 20-year power purchase agreement for the new facility will provide baseload generation for our province, helping us meet the needs of our customers with safe, reliable power.
