As Saskatchewan's economy continues to grow, there is an increased demand for power as people invest in the province and make it their home. As part of this process, we're exploring opportunities for private ownership or investment in new generating facilities.
At SaskPower, we've taken the necessary steps towards securing new electrical generation. Following a competitive bidding process, which began in the fall of 2008, we've chosen Northland Power Inc., a leading independent power producer based in Toronto, to provide 86 megawatts of power to our province-wide electrical grid beginning in December of 2011.
Our 25-year power purchase agreement with Northland Power Inc. will help us to continue to meet the need to provide our customers with secure, reliable power.
As part of the earlier request-for-qualifications, the RFQ process was conducted by an evaluation committee and observed by a fairness consultant. The fairness consultant's report is now available.
